簡介：

WEARABLE CERAMICS

Trained as a contemporary jeweller, Peter Hoogeboom started to use ceramics in his work in 1994, two years after his graduation. Welcoming the plasticity and texture of clay, in complete contrast to the rigidity of metal, he has been exploring ceramics in his jewellery ever since.

In this lecture Peter Hoogeboom presents selected works from four collections; in each series showing a different application of clay. The links with ceramics in its function as tableware or container are obvious. The work tells about vulnerability, a characteristic of crockery we all know. -Handle with Care- printed on boxes carrying ceramics became the title of his first collection. 

People mention the kind of ethnographic feeling his work has. In his last two collections Peter Hoogeboom deals with cultural appropriation deliberately. And with his identity coming from The Netherlands (literally The Low Countries): self-made lands of clay, reclaimed from sea and lakes. Clay for jewels, appropriate for a people of growers.
